Best prep resources for short case study?
Have an upcoming case study that I’ve been told will be focused on completing a model (rather than building it out) based on a provided CIP.
Structure is: - 1 hour to review CIP and adjust model - 1 hour to walk through decisions with hiring team
For reference, I’ve done very few case studies and am looking for relatively comprehensive resources. Any help appreciated.
Cheers!
Ah, diving into the world of case studies can be quite the adventure! Based on the highest ranked content on WSO, here's a breakdown of some resources that could help you prepare for your upcoming case study:
CraftingCases: While this resource is more tailored towards consulting case interviews, it does offer a free 7-day crash course that could help you understand the components of a case. It includes self-study drills that might be useful for practicing the analytical thinking you'll need when reviewing the CIP and adjusting the model.
RocketBlocks: This platform offers a free trial and is praised for its consulting drills. Although it's not directly focused on financial modeling, the mental math and data extrapolation drills could be beneficial for sharpening the skills you'll need to quickly interpret data and make adjustments to your model.
Case Interview Secrets: This resource provides a more in-depth look into the consulting mindset and structuring frameworks from scratch. While it's more consulting-focused, the strategic thinking it advocates can be very useful when you need to walk through your decisions with the hiring team.
WSO's Financial Modeling Resources: While not explicitly mentioned in the context, WSO does offer financial modeling resources that could be directly applicable to your case study prep. These resources are designed to help you understand the mechanics of financial models, which could be crucial when you're given a model to adjust.
University Case Books: Although these are more commonly used for consulting case prep, they often contain a variety of business scenarios and can help you practice structuring your thoughts and communicating your decision-making process effectively.
Remember, the key to success in a case study is not just understanding the technical aspects but also being able to clearly articulate your thought process and the rationale behind your decisions. So, while you're practicing with these resources, focus on both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of the case. Good luck, and may your case study be as fruitful as a banana plantation! 🍌
