Biz Dev at UMM Fund or continue in Sales/Partnerships in PE Services Companies (Grata, Expert Networks, Pitchbook)
Hi Chimps, I (27F) have an offer for BD Analyst at a UMM fund (~8B AUM) with the opportunity to be part of a 5-person team reporting to a Partner. The caveat is I'm already 5-years post grad and have potential for Sales/Partnerships roles at PE client services companies (previously oversaw MF clients at Expert Networks) where I could make higher comp, so I'm debating whether it'll be worth the pay cut to break into PE ($130k all-in with no sourcing commission b/c the fund doesn't do a lot platform deals). My rationale would be that having true buyside experience at a respected firm + networking + M&A understanding will allow me to end up with a better growth / corp dev / partnerships role down the line.
Basically hoping for opinion on whether a entry-level BD role in PE is an advantageous + rewarding career move opposed to continuing pureplay Sales / Partnerships given I'm already 27 now and will be downgrading my title + comp - worried this may just set me back. Any thoughts are very much appreciated!

I’m biased as I’m in BD, but I think it’s the best job in the industry. I’d absolutely take this over a service provider role, as BD has become harder and harder to break into as the function has matured and institutionalized.
Thank you so much, an incredibly helpful perspective coming from an opinion I've valued across posts on WSO. For what it's worth, I ended up accepting the offer. BD in PE FTW!
Wait fuck, am I not posting under anonymous?
Regardless, congrats on the new role!
Likewise in BD, could you PM me? Want to ask a question but don’t see username
