Hi all, anyone knows how the ladder works at Blackstone? How many years does it take from Associate to VP? As far as I understand they also have a Senior Associate role what is the difference between these two and how many years does it take from Senior Associate to VP as well? Thanks

Investment teams don’t use VP, it goes analyst , associate, sr associate , principal, md , smd
Fundraising (ICS) which is considered front office uses VP and then SVP but not principal title before MD
All other groups mid office / back office etc use support titles , analyst , associate, sr associate, Assistant VP, VP, SVP, MD, SMD

I joined as a principal and left as one. 2 years. Felt like there was no route to MD or SMD. The MDs in my business unit were all in their 40-50 the SMDs were young too.
Typically if you’re a sr associate more than 3 it’s time to get out. Or principal more than 3 writing is o mine wall

Work at BX PE. Note except for AN -> ASO, all promos are competitive / merit-based - time itself won't cut it:
- Analyst: 2 years
- Associate: 1.5 years (if lateraling from bank at ASO level: 2.5 years)
- Sr Assoc: 2-3 years (depends on performance. If coming in as MBA Sr Assoc: 2 years)
- Principal: 3-4 years
- MD: Highly variable but I've seen 3-4 years for those that are destined to make Partner
- SMD

Depends on team. In my team, yes.
