Boutique Private Investments Compensation and Advise

Fund size <100m

Role: Analyst 1

Compensation: SGD 54k + Unknown Bonus + Carry

Country: Singapore

I work in a boutique private investment fund with less then 100m AUM, doing mainly private credit, special situations and a bit of PE. It’s my first job out of university, and I’ve been working for a year.

It’s a really small team, love my boss and the work. I’m able to touch all areas of the investment process. Hours has been great as well, flexible work from home arrangements etc. If I can bring deals or investment in my boss has promised me some sort of carry.

We’re potentially starting a new PE fund with a totally new strategy, but in the same sector that my boss has experienced in. Pretty exciting stuff, I like the strategy and feel like it has legs.

However, this year wasn’t a good year for us, not many closed investments, and I’ve been told bonus won’t be great.

When I went to talk to my boss about comp, he seems to be annoyed about the topic, I think it’s a more Asian thing.

Question is should I just stay for the experience? Or start looking for a new role elsewhere? There’s a lot to learn but I feel like I’m underpaid compared to my peers. Any advice would be great, would like to know the compensation for peers in the region as well
