Looking for up to date numbers here. I have a remote finance head role I want to fill, and ideally led by an ex-PE guy since they usually have a brain. I know cdn comp is meaningfully lower than the US too. What number would be competitive? At ~$160k CAD + up to ~$60k bonus we are getting quite a few applicants that seem solid. Is this high/low?

I don't work for anyone and have not worked for anyone since I was in my teens. This is a position to be a "mini-CFO" for one of my brands.
It’s a terrible market for applicants, and if you’re fully remote you can pay way less since everywhere is insanely expensive. I’m not surprised you’re getting hits, an Associate at somewhere not bad is probably 225+
You're saying a good PE shop in Canada is $225k CAD all in, excluding Onex, Altas, and Brookfield? What is big 5 Aso1 pay in Canada?
135k base + bonus (no idea what it is this year but was 100% at my bank last year)
Believe it is around 275. Though the banks have their weird share vesting programs, so you get ~135 base and then something like 70% of your bonus in cash - maybe it’s less now idk
Disregard my title. Pension funds pay their analysts 120-160k and their associates 180-240k. (Very rough range)
You may get someone by offering a similar range, but if you really want to be competitive I think you’ll also need to offer them more than just a similar comp. (Upward mobility, equity, improves responsibilities, etc.)
Just my two cents from someone who’s at a pension fund and who probably has a profile similar to the ones you’re targeting.
Helpful! Yes the gist of the JD is basically “own finance for this brand and we will make you CFO in less than 2 years”.
These numbers are low. All large pensions pay analysts at the top end of your range, and Associates closer to 250+.
Current pension analyst - range is pretty close - I know CPP is top end of this - others are probably closer to middle - some less prominent pension analyst programs may be closer to the bottom but can’t confirm there
What sort of experience are you looking for? Would make it easier to benchmark comp across Canada level.
It also depends on which type of PE shop within Canada as well.
