Clean Tech and Advanced Energy Private Equity

I am interested in recruiting for either traditional private equity or growth equity in clean tech, advanced energy, or other related industries within the renewable energy supply chain. Some example funds/strategies that match what I am looking for are TPG Alternative & Renewable Technologies, Silver Lake Kraftwerk, and Oaktree GFI Energy Group. I would appreciate any insight on these questions:

  1. What are some players that are active in the space (ideally with fund sizes of $200 million or greater)?
  2. Are there any cities/countries with noteworthy clusters of firms in North America or Western Europe?
  3. Is this a growing area of investing or still relatively unproven/unprofitable?
  4. Is it feasible to successfully recruit for one of these funds from a strong Technology coverage group (software-focused) or would a lateral move to a Power/Utilities or Industrials group better position me?

Thank you for any help!
