Considered CorpDev?

Recently received an offer to join a Corp Dev / Strategy job after finishing up my Analyst years at my bank.

For anyone that had considered CorpDev/Strat but ultimately went into PE, what made you not go?

Appreciate that one would no longer be a revenue generator, earnings potential is reduced etc. but interested to hear other reasons eg if they thought it was too early

I went into f500 strategy after doing IB and PE. For me personally, PE prepared me much better for that role and allowed me to build a differentiated skillset that made me rise through the ranks very quickly. In PE I learned how to own things from point a to b and how to critically evaluate and interpret data, not just create it. I also became more comfortable speaking out on calls and carrying myself more confidently around older people.

That said, PE is an absolutely miserable job and if your mental health and personal life aren’t in good shape right now I’m not sure I can completely recommend 2 more years of a brutal existence. Take care of your mental and physical health above all else.
