Consulting, IB, and PE don't want Corporate Strategy / Development?

I recently posted the job description below on multiple platforms and have received ~1,200 applications, but none have the target backgrounds in consulting, IB, and PE that I am looking for. Is the transition to Corporate Strategy / Development dead?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive market research and competitive analysis on consumer trends & products, utilizing consulting-style frameworks to identify product development gaps and strategic market opportunities
  • Analyze consumer behavior data, financial performance metrics, and industry insights using analytical methodologies to generate actionable business intelligence that directly influences product P&L performance and business outcomes
  • Translate market research findings and consumer data into executive-ready strategic business recommendations that inform product roadmap planning and investment priorities
  • Collaborate directly with senior leadership and C-suite executives to present strategic insights and recommendations that shape brand direction and product strategy
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with external suppliers and vendor partners while collaborating with internal cross-functional teams including R&D, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Design to drive products from concept to market launch
  • Lead product development project coordination by managing complex project timelines, tracking critical milestones, and ensuring all deliverables meet established quality standards
  • Coordinate product sampling processes, consumer testing protocols, and feedback collection systems for continuous product development improvement using structured analytical approaches
  • Execute consumer research initiatives including customer surveys, focus group interviews, and market testing programs to validate product concepts and business cases

I would think that this type of experience would be super appealing and exciting for the type of person that tried out finance and realized it may not be a great fit long term. Am I missing something?

definitely competitive. Didn't post, but super helpful to see all are interested.

Tries to grossly underpay top talent… can’t find anyone. Classic lmao.. get bent

While I don't think pay is compelling coming from PE, I do not think you should expect any pay outside of the finance industry to be comparable. Way better WLB which was priceless for me personally. Comp will be around 130 for 2 years out of school. Equity exposure at the next level up for a fast growing company.

Why no equity % now? Why would someone leave a lucrative track and take a massive pay cut for a high risk startup and not even get equity? Sounds like you’re underpaying

To anyone considering corp dev from banking or buyside, please do NOT DO IT!! The WLB benefits are nebulous at best. I've worked every weekend for a year for less than a third of the pay I used to make at a megafund. FP&A is even worse. Please PLease PLEASSEEE do NOT DO IT.

Was laid off 18 months ago and am near unaliving myself (drafting my note as we speak) because at 8 years of top experience (EB, Megafund, FAANG) I'm getting interviews in the sub-$150K range and these roles aren't a standard 40-hour week. Jobs that want ex-bankers want to be able to grind you to a pulp, but not pay for it.

It's too late to go back to high finance, and I completely ruined my life. Do NOT listen to any of these BS recruiters. Stay the course. The well is really deep.

If you have 1200 applicants why don't you give one of them a shot? What's the profile you're receiving now?

If this is NY increase the compensation and open up the experience requirement to accept returning professionals with resume gaps.

The responsibilities don't reflect a substantive need to require certain experience from my perspective. Consider precise situations you see people fitting in and use those in the listing instead.

If you want IB talent, you can’t pay peanuts. Maybe go with one of the 1200 applicants lmao

Honestly you sound like such an entitled bitch. You have a shitty job which isn’t even paying people enough to afford a studio apartment, you get 1200 applicants, you’re not happy with any of them, and now you post complaining about how you can’t find top talent?

Your issue is the comp. Ignore my title, I am more senior, corp dev jobs I get reached out to for are sometimes ~1/4 of my total comp. Even for more junior employees, some of these roles are >50% haircut.
