Converting Sophomore PE internship to FT?

Hello all, I am a rising sophomore at a non-target, 4.0 gpa and now midway through a boutique investment banking internship. While I have enjoyed it and learned a lot, I feel that the sell-side is not something I want to pursue long term.

In the fall, I am interning at a startup pe firm in a sector and location I am very interested in. As of now I am pursuing an ib internship for SA2027, but I am also really interested in working for this firm full time as I would like to work in a startup environment, while taking a bigger risk (could fail, certainly lower cash comp) for the potential of a bigger reward (carry in the fund earlier). I would love any thoughts on if this strategy is feasible and would love to hear anyone's experience with startup firms and also potentially any tips on how to maximize my chances of being asked to return.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
