Corp Dev to PE
Curious to hear the forum’s thoughts on how ppl think about this.. Have a candidate who has banking + corp dev experience, solids names, talks well, knows the industry I am inclined to give him a shot but Am I taking a risk? Has anyone made the transition? (Also curious how did you make it happen?) How did it work out? Or not?
Bump.. curious as well
For what role? For associate it seems fairly safe if not better than someone coming with only banking experience.
For S.Aso.. I figured as much
So I assume you mean to say they wud be bad fit for senior roles… hmm
Wanted to see what others experience have been
Senior associate would be fine. Above that it's not black and white. Depends on their experience, your strategy, how your firm is set up, etc.
You are talking no more of a risk than hiring some GS chud
Buy side experience is buy side experience. It's still M&A, and still standard financial models. The only difference might be capital stack in the deal structure and the waterfall model, but that is relatively easy to bring someone along in a few months. If you're inclined to hire them but concerned about not coming straight from IB or another PE shop, then the concerns are easily remedied, and you should hire them.
