There are definitely a lot more than this. Lone Star and Highland strike me as the best work experience, though I hear from current and past workers that the work environment at Highland is absolutely awful.
You are likely thinking of Highland Capital Management, the hedge fund, not Highlander, the PE firm.
Yup, they're both listed above. I don't know anything about Highlander
Any insight as to how these firms recruit? Who are the headhunters they work with are? Curious if they use local shops.
If I recall correctly Dynamics and Oxbridge cover a lot of these guys
EnCap is stricky energy and they're more of a VC fund (primarily growth investments). However I would put them at the top of the list in Dallas. I've heard their comp is insane and their work life balance is commendable. But if you don't have prior energy IB experience at a BB or EB, don't bother.
If you don't have upstream exposure, it also isn't worth your time. Same for NGP.

There are a ton more. I am from Dallas and do a lot of business in Dallas. Look at firms at old parkland.
