I work at one of the mentioned funds, albeit not in the PE business (on the public side). We use headhunters for senior hires (PM/Principal and above) but typically are not allowed to use headhunters for more junior roles. I got my job from applying to a listing on Linkedin / job portal but this was a while ago before Linkedin made it so easy for people to spam applications to hundreds of jobs.
These days we get so many applications for any role (high 3 figures typically) that the first batch of interviews is often only with candidates we know (other buy side shops / sell-side analysts we know) & referrals. Only after that do we start trawling through the cold application candidate pool.
Thanks for your reply, helpful insights. Based on what you outlined, is a referral the only real way for an IBD Analyst/Associate to make a move to your firm? Considering Linkedin applications mostly ignored due to spam-level amounts, the position is not searched for by headhunters, and an IBD Analyst would not currently work in another buy-side shop?
