As an executive in a portfolio company, what kind of exit opportunities are there? How common is it to lateral to a private equity firm in an operations type role, and what would the compensation be (at the respective size PE firms)? Does the ease/frequency of transition depend on the size of the portfolio company (e.g. lower middle market, middle market, etc.)?

Has anyone seen this happen? I would think plenty of executives have made the leap, but what about financial analysts?
