Family health emergency during live deal during Associate program

Have you ever had am family member's health deteriorate notably during a live deal (and also potentially requiring you to give them some amount of your time in-person) during your associate program?

I'm cognizant of being just before business school recs are written but I'm not willing to neglect my family for someone else to get rich.

What do you do during these situations?

Are you close with any of the VP's/Directors? Maybe run it by them first and ask them for the best way to approach.

Taking care of most important people in your life vs. being a replaceable Excel jockey that no one cares about. Seems like a difficult choice to make.

Don't ask your managers for a 'permission', just inform them you will be taking time off. If they don't like it, leave. No job, I repeat - NO JOB - should go above your friends, family and personal health.
