Firms that Build Companies from Scratch?

Curious to compile a list of firms (regardless of “type” — PE, GE, VC) that have a history of / investment style towards starting companies from scratch.

for example New Mountain might “start” a new platform business from scratch, and thrive capital/ others might incubate businesses.

any others come to mind?

generally interested in the firms that aren’t just buying business at auction or taking them private, but rather building something.

The phrasing doesn't make a ton of sense. The funds you listed aren't "starting" anything from scratch. They're creating a new brand/holdco with assets someone else already started and scaled that will mostly grow through M&A. A LOT of funds do this, it's not a "strategy" different from any other buy & build play most of the time.

Rubicon Founders is one, a HC focused fund in Nashville. They started a few companies from scratch and also invest as a MM PE.
