Goldman Sachs Merchant Banking Private Equity Associate

Seen threads about MBD at GS from the analyst perspective, but was curious on thought on a PE Associate position at GS? How does this stand compared to other MF / UMM associate positions? Anyone know if they pay market for their associates?

Saw they're raising $8 billion for their new fund.

Probably wouldn't lump then with MF / UMM funds from an experience standpoint. They largely do co-investing and preferred equity investments, few control investments if any. They like to partner with their corporate clients from IB. Wouldn't get much of an operational experience, however it is still Goldman Sachs. FWIW they are trying to build out their asset management business and manage LP funds compared to using own balance sheet. Would still take most MF / UMM offers, and many MM funds over GS MBD.
