Biotech/Life sci PE/VC or MBB for someone from a PhD background

Hi everyone, I’m currently a life sci/biomed PhD student studying at a reputable university. I’ve done a few healthcare VC internships during my PhD but have second doubts about investing or even working in this space (biotech/life sci) due to current market downturn and potential for growth beyond this space. I have a few questions for those experienced in biotech and generalists that whether

1) I should pursue MBB over VC/PE in healthcare/biotech space if I have an interest in working in fields other than biotech (ex. Tech). I feel like having a PhD pigeonholed myself to a sector and wanted to explore beyond biotech to other great industries out there. Many think it’s crazy to do consulting over buyside

2) Is it possible to transition from a biotech/life sci buy side role to a more general buy side role (or roles in other sectors). For example, from BX life sci to BX PE given my background (PhD, No mba/IB exp, no investing exp beyond this space). Because I am still very interested in buyside, but don’t want to pigeonhole myself in one sector especially in downturns like this.

3) Your general thoughts on biotech/life sci PE/VC, compensation, potential to move up in the finance world if I start off in this space(many PE firms don’t have life sci/biotech arms, but the ones that do, I feel it’s just a diversification strategy).

4) Other advice or insights you might have especially about biotech/life sci space and its perception among investors, headwinds/upsides and future potential and whether this will be a great industry to work in if I do decide to commit (unlike most buyside professionals, it seems to me that it is hard for advanced degree candidates to pivot)
