Hilarious - Experience is interesting

I haven't really posted a lot here, nor do I come here often but I thought you might find my experience interesting (I find it hilarious).

I recently interviewed with a reputable PE shop. Now because I'm currently with an IB, we agreed I would drop by during luch and have an informal chat with the HR. That was supposed to the screening process. I was fine with the why's and how's but I kind of felt that I was failing to establish rapport with the lady.

Anyhow, 4 days later I got my feedback: ding because 1) I was not wearing a tie and 2) I was not wearing a suit!!! Gosh, that was the most hilarious (I would refrain from using other adjectives) thing I had ever heard. Granted I was not wearing a tie (not a required piece of attire at the bank, at least not if you're a mere analyst) but to say I was not wearing a suit is ... uhm... show shall I put it... to stretch the truth! I wonder if it is some new type of rejection letter, PE-style :-D

i dunno ... i can't say i really blame them.

i'm just an undergrad and when i have any sort of contact w/ a prospective employer i make a point to wear a suit and tie. Even when i have an informal informational dinner right after class i'll wear a suit through the day ...

Isn't suit/tie for any meeting where you're selling something (in this case yourself) fairly standard? (Again, I have little real world experience, this is just what I've learned from reading/career center)

IBAspirant ... ding because 1) I was not wearing a tie and 2) I was not wearing a suit!!!

i would have asked you point blank during the interview why you thought it was appropriate to attend without your tie on. seriously. would you visit a client without your tie on? roadshow? conference?

why didn't you wear a tie if you were wearing a suit? seems odd. Did you keep your jacket on?

You have got to be kidding, right? Do I really need to explain that? Have you read the original post attentively? Oh, wait, you're just in college, like most of the people here...
