In final round of interview and has been 2 and a half weeks since interview for mm pe fund. External recruiter says has been radio silence from them but is that just something they say while they are negotiating with another candidate?

This has happened to me twice. Hoping this is not the case for you, but both times they ended up hiring someone else and the recruiter was aware of what was happening the entire time. It's easy to forget sometime they work for the firm and not for us even when they position themselves as such.
Interesting - would never lie though, even if it were to be in the clients best interests.
Lying is a requirement for HR. Have you not seen the amount of lying graph?

Move on and keep hitting somewhere else.
Somewhat similar situation - had final round early this week that I thought went very well; recruiter told me they are still having other candidates interviewing and won't hear back till the end of the week. Seems strange to spread out the final round / superday over multiple days, rather than having everyone fly out on the same day. Curious if anyone has thoughts on situation and if I'm reading into it too much?
