As the title suggests, what do you think is the typical # of years at the VP level before Principal promotion?

Depends on what role sr associate plays (is that a junior vp or just a title bump to an associate), if firms have just one "principal" title (no vp), etc.
but in general I'd say 4-5 yrs
Thanks, yeah I'm talking traditional U.S. middle market buyout firms with associate/VP/Principal path. Trying to get a sense if my firm is market here or longer.
Then yeah I'd say 4-5 with the caveat that smaller firms are often less structured so you might see less rigid timelines. The deal market is also not doing anyone any favors this year.
