How to respond to headhunters “any other processes?”

Is it best to lie, or be honest?

Not sure if no other processes or updates makes it seem like you’re undesirable

What do headhunters even do with this information? Do they tell their client “John is also interviewing at XYZ Capital and has a superday on Monday”?

I wouldn't lie, but if you genuinely have other processes, it's to your benefit to share. Few reasons:

  • Indeed makes you appear more desirable, particularly if interviewing with notable names
  • Helps expedite your process with firm #2 (e.g., firm #2 is debating when to have their superday but knows they might lose you if firm #1 gives you an offer --> They may expedite your interview which actually opens up your ability to compare firms versus just blanket accepting firm #1 (or rejecting it and burning a bridge with the recruiter))

In terms of what recruiters actually do - you'll laugh, but it's exactly what you said. "Candidate X has a final round with Firm XYZ on Monday" which usually triggers my firm to move on candidates whom we like more quickly to avoid losing them.
