Hi guys:
It seems like much of private investing (debt or equity) is deal driven; what are some shops that are a bit more ideas-driven/cerebral/nerdy (aka, it’s ok if you are quirky and you don’t have to be “all American” in personality), both on equity and credit side?

I'm not sure what you mean. Anyone working in PE is probably a massive nerd given requirements lol
This isn't wolf of wall street, the magna cum laude at wharton > PJT RSSG > x megafund person will be "nerdy"
Let me clarify, so far my observation is that PE is deal-driven and being a white guy is a huge advantage given most of the people you source from (CEOs) are white guys, and the top level of the industry is also mostly white guys. Are there any PE funds doing direct investing where, due to how they think about investing/what kind of deals they pursue, that isn’t such a big advantage?
PE is probably one of the least racist places you can go. I've had zero issues and am not white. Generally speaking by the way...you'll run into less issues with racism when working with a smarter crowd.
