internship decision!
Hey y’all. Deciding on internships next year. Here are my options:
1- private equity analyst at a 5 billion aum firm 2- ib analyst at a LMM firm 3- commercial banking intern at think capital one, bank of NY, fifth third bank
My ultimate goal is to land a BB ib internship the summer after. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
PE
It depends what you mean by “LMM” bank
At what point would the IB internship be better in your opinion?
If it’s a decent bank then do IB. It’s more relevant bc essentially you’d just be moving upstream to a bigger firm
Commercial Banking intern for sure.
Why?
Ib is more relevant but depends on the pe firm
I would do PE if it’s a high quality firm and it’s actually $5B of direct private equity AUM, as opposed to secondaries or something.
PE but keep in mind your sophomore summer internship doesn’t matter much as most BB/EB recruiting will be done before it starts. I was never asked about my sophomore summer internship in interviews and landed junior SA offers at a top EB and multiple top BBs.
PE internship will give you the best learning experience though imo
