Interviewed Head of PE, Snr. MDs at a UMM firm - waiting for feedback still?
I interviewed at a pretty recognizable UMM firm (think Centerbridge, Advent, Oaktree, Cerberus). I had one interview with MD (team I'd be joining) about 2 weeks ago. I then got invited back to meet 2 Snr. MDs one of which is the head of PE, and 2 other MDs. I felt like all the convos went well - I asked for feedback after the interviews and it was largely positive (one guy was yawning a lot during the call which was sorta rude but even he said we should do more calls). At some point, they told me the process is lengthy and they do a bunch of due diligence. This was on Monday. I'm still awaiting feedback from the team / search firm.
I've asked the search firm twice and they have said they have not heard feedback yet but 4 days feels like a lot for the search firm not to have heard any feedback.
At this point I just want to reach out to the firm itself given they've replied to my thank you emails as well (3 for 5).
Am I on hold? Or are they interviewing other candidates? Did they get busy? Or otherwise, is the process just super disorganized? You guys are on the other so you'd know best. Let me know.
Sounds like a ding, especially if recruiter is ghosting you. I wouldn't bother the PE firm, it's not likely they just forgot about you. Most processes just ghost unfortunately, very rare to get an official denial or any real feedback
Sorry the search firm is not ghosting - they have told me they have not yet heard feedback.
Probably dinged.
Rule of thumb if you are using a HH you will never have to hunt them down if there is good news.
Lol so true. They will leave you 10,000 voicemails to get you to move forward or accept an offer
Just deal directly with team.
Headhunters are waste of time.
If you think you’re dinged, what do you have to lose by going direct?
This is not the way things are done in PE recruiting world and it's unprofessional
It's a pretty well known rule in using HHs that you can't try and go around them to the team if they brought you in. If this guy was getting an offer the team would be hounding the HH to sign him.
They like you but don’t love you.
They’re interviewing a couple other candidates and will decide once they wrap those up.
Would you recommend reaching out to the firm directly?
I’m not sure that reaching out directly to the firm will change anything. It will only annoy the HH and the firm. Just wait
Echoing this, not sure what reaching out will do other than annoying them? How lengthy has the process been so far? I was in an off-cycle process last year and sometimes it took 2-3 weeks to hear back lol I don’t think 4 days is that bad. Maybe after 1.5-2 weeks reach out and ask directly (at that point you have nothing to lose)
Bump
bump
Update: I got the job. Took like 5-6 more interviews (think they had made a soft decision on me by this point). Board meetings, thanksgiving , random other meetings had took up some time on their end. Firm runs lean so that's part of it.
Congratulations, man! Best wishes for the role!
Did you end up following up? I'm in basically the exact same boat right now...
