Is it possible to be a generalist in the private markets?

Hello everyone This question has been on my mind for some time and obviously I am not going to get a better answer myself than from the OSM community. Is it possible to be a generalist in private markets? Like having a decent understanding of different products and move between them (credit, equities, real estate, infra, etc) or should one specialise oneself at the beginning of one's career?
