Lateral Networking Strategy
What is a good approach for reaching out and trying to network at small firms, essentially to express interest in learning more and to see if they're looking for laterals? Should you connect with the VP or a Partner?
Feels odd to try and network directly instead of waiting for recruiters to call, but the market is so unpredictable now that I wonder if direct outreach could help.

My strategy is to reach out to literally anyone because you'll get maybe a 2% response rate, anyone same level or higher than me. Hasn't gotten me any opportunities other than promises of "oh yeah shoot over your resume, we'll check and keep you in mind." I frame it as wanting to learn more about the strategy / team, but I'm trying to transition to a specific industry niche.
Would love to hear anyone else's thoughts / approach. Rough out here for a lot of folks who have great exp. and who would most assuredly be getting action if it was >1 year ago.
