Lateraling after 6 months
Looking for some advice - had signed for a MM / LMM shop during on-cycle and have been on the desk for the last ~6 months. So far have not loved the experience and so have been looking at other shops and strategies - maybe something more across the lines of growth or special sits investing. Is it too soon to consider a move at this stage? I'd be open to sticking it out for a bit longer but mainly worry having to do an extra year as an associate if I wait too long before moving.
Bump - same situation in similar fund
No need. I just made the move to MM PE after 5 months. If you got real deal experience in IB and built a ton of models and CIMs/worked through diligence there’s no secret knowledge you’re going to unlock at 1-2 years.
Sorry for the confusion, I've done 2 years of IB and hit the desk at the MM shop about 6 months ago. Not loving the experience at the PE shop doing vanilla buyouts, so therefore considering more growth or maybe special sits type stuff.
Growth tends to be lower comp if you’re fine with that. Activist hedge funds could be an interesting move you can make out of traditional buyout PE.
