Lateraling in PE - Using the same HH
I’m thinking of lateraling from my current PE role after a year or less. Can you use the same HH that placed you at your current role to lateral? For reference, I was placed by one of the bigger HHs that has a significant number of clients. Seemed weird to me to reach out at first, but was curious if anyone has experience with this good or bad.

Absolutely not - will be prohibited in their contract with the fund.

In my experience, this hasn’t stopped them. I’ve spoken with a number of HHs who have said “we work with your firm so please keep this confidential and we will do the same”.
Agree with above, they are usually prohibited from poaching from clients. Also even if they reached out I would just ignore, not every HH at any given firm is super smart/aware of the rules
On top of that, many have refund policies where the search firm credits back part of their fee if an associate leaves very excessively early. (AKA they'd be screwing themselves over).
I guess the question now is better framed as: does this burn the bridge with the HH that placed you if you leave after your 1st year?

Similar question: what are the odds that the headhunter that placed you to your current place would give a heads up to your boss that it looks like you're talking to someone else? E.g. in the event you turn on the search thing on linkedin to notify headhunters
