Looking for some advice
Hey Everyone. I was hoping to get some advice from the broader group to see what different people would do in my situation. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Right after undergrad, I was lucky enough to land a gig in PE, where i stayed for just over 2 years. I moved to another city to do Corp Dev thereafter and stayed for ~6 months till I had to come back home (i.e., closer to my parents) because my mom got really sick.. Didn't want to be away in case anything happened. Came back to my hometown and got another PE gig in the city. Been grinding out pretty long hours consecutively (it's been about 7 months) and recently, I've been getting chest pains. I went to the doctor and he mentioned it's because of the stress, anxiety, long hours, not exercising, etc. I'm not entirely sure what to do at this point. Obviously I want to put my health over work, but also, given that I left my prior job after only a short stint, I feel somewhat stuck to stay.
What's driving the long hours? If it's just a busy time on live deal work (which it has been for most shops) and there's a light at the end of the tunnel in the near term with stuff closing, I would suggest waiting it out and then asking for a vacation (and be firm about asking) to help reset.
If this is just the pace of your shop, you should leave asap however. Nothing is worth your health. Easier said than done but an employer always puts the company first - do the same for yourself.
