MBA IB Associate -> PE. How does recruiting work?

Forgive me if this has already been discusssed, but I will be joining the M&A team at a BB and was curious what the best way to go about recruiting into PE is (after I work 1-3 years).

Should I be reaching out to headhunters now, or do they reach out?  I know the off cycle recruiting isn't nearly as streamlined as it is for analysts.

Anything I should be doing to prepare in advance?  I start my IB role full-time next summer.

Very unstructured and mostly MM/LMM firms, nothing like the analyst recruiting. HHs will find you, although the exit is usually closer to the 3 year end of the range rather than 1 year.

Nothing to do now. Just make sure once you start that your group is on your LinkedIn (in the description is fine, don't need to put in your title) and mess with the settings so your non-connections can see your email address.
