Moving upstream as PE analyst

Currently an incoming analyst at a respectable MM PE shop (Charlesbank/Audax/Parthenon). Love the firm but still considering a move to UMM/MF down the line. Would appreciate context on how recruiting differs vs BB/EB analysts. Will my position / experience be viewed more favorably or unfavorably? Would on cycle or off cycle be a better option? What will the on cycle process (e.g. HH outreach, recruiting under the table) look like? Any insight is helpful. Thanks!
