Negotiating MM PE salary
Is there ever any wiggle room to negotiate salary at a middle market PE firm? Or is it pretty set and frowned upon to do so?
Offer is a big cut from banking - trying to see my options

Negotiate. It shows 'bollocks' - if you can't / don't try your own salary, how will you be able to negotiate a deal down the line?
As an associate? Absolutely fucking not, there are so many people ready to take your spot it’s not even funny.
I applaud the sentiment, feel free to try, but I put odds at 75% they laugh and say no, 24% they laugh and revoke your offer, and 1% they move on comp.
By all means, don’t let us shut you down - go get your money - but associates don’t have any leverage and are pretty much always on a fixed payscale.
I figured, but worth an ask. Thanks!
Do you have any insight into what is typical AS1 pay for a MM firm ~1.5bn AUM / 750mm-1bn fund size is? Trying to gauge if it is in the right ballpark
$250k-$275k is ballpark market these days.
IDK why people are telling you "no" to this, just tell the Headhunter that you expected to come in higher than offered and they'll work like hell for their commission. I literally JUST had a buddy do this--offer came in lower than expected, he told the HH that it needed to be higher, and he got it higher. If you don't sign the HH loses their comp, so you should ask.
Same, also had a friend successfully negotiate higher for A1 comp (got another $15k added to base)
Wouldn't try during oncycle as they literally have a line out the door, but if it's offcycle you might be able to swing it. If this is your dream firm / only offer wouldn't do it, but if you have options worth a shot
