PE Deal Sourcing Exit Opps

I recently landed a deal sourcing / origination internship with an UMM PE firm and was wondering how the exit opps shape up. I’d like to end up in PE or HF in an investment role, and wondered if those types of shops could see this experience favorably or if I could just work and network extremely hard to offset the not too related experience. Also wondering if investment banks look at this experience favorably and if I would be able to lateral to get better experience.
