I could be wrong (and assuming you're talking about AIMco) but from my understanding through the posting, and through talking to someone on the team previously, you rotate through 3 of their asset classes, but you basically join the team.

So if you're in PE, it would be an investing role there for example. Let me know if I'm wrong though

Analyst 1 in IB-M&A:

i thought investment management is not actually an "investing" role. do you know if this is true or not?

That is not necessarily true, as it depends on the scale and sophistication of the allocator. It is true that some allocators only do manager selection in which they allocate to other funds and do diligence on the fund rather than an asset (apart from private co-investment opps that come from GP relationships). Other allocators have full fledged investment teams where they invest their own capital in both public and private markets. Most do a mix of both.

Some/most people dont consider manager selection a true “investing” role so I think that is where you got that idea. Always a good idea to read job descriptions rather than try to guess based on a job title.
