Candid answer is I have never seen this done. A lot of firms only hire post-MBA from individuals with prior PE experience (often at the same firm). As to how it could theoretically happen, if you had really solid references and performance in your pre-MBA analyst role, I would reach out to your old colleagues who know you well and see if they would be willing to be a reference and provide some introductions. An MD I know saying “this person was a rockstar and you should meet them” could get you at least some intros. You probably would need to start as an Associate, but this approach, while low probability, likely would be more successful than headhunters because you don’t fit the specific profile of their target candidate. It goes without saying, if you do get an intro, you need to be solid on the interview. Hope this helps and good luck!
