Renewables to buyout
Hi all, curious about your thought on this lateral opportunity. Currently a year 2 analyst at a fund with renewables mandate and am in late stage discussions with a generalist buyout fund. Both shops are usd 20bn + aum. Assuming comp is same, would it be worth making a move? Logic is to expand strategy + industry coverage. Current team is well structured but has low deal flow, while the new role is a new team with a few live deals with visibility. Thanks!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points to consider for your lateral move from a renewables-focused fund to a generalist buyout fund:
Strategy and Industry Coverage Expansion:
Deal Flow:
Team Structure:
Compensation:
Long-Term Prospects:
Firm Size and Reputation:
In summary, if expanding your strategy and industry coverage, increasing deal flow, and having a role in a new team with visibility on live deals align with your career goals, making the move could be a worthwhile decision.
