Requesting H1B sponsorship from MM PE Firm?

Has anyone successfully requested H1B sponsorship from a middle-market PE firm?

How did you approach the conversation during the recruiting process? What was your experience navigating the process? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I have had two different PE firms that didn’t usually sponsor (one an UMM firm and another a MM firm) that were very willing to hire me.

Think it usually comes down to just whether you can impress them enough. Most of them are small enough to a point where they have the flexibility to change policies for people they like (unlike banks). How much does 10k in lawyer fees affect them? Not that much. So if they like you they’ll not let that stop them from offering you.

I have found it’s best not to bring up sponsorship need but also not hide ur background. That allows them to get to know you and like you before they are exposed to the thought of sponsoring. I would always tell them I was from a country outside US but not explicitly tell them I needed sponsorship.

At what point did you discuss sponsorship? Was it after receiving the offer?
