Secondaries Oncycle/Recruiting in general
How does recruiting look like for secondaries PE at the analyst level? Is the timeline similar to that of traditional PE? More referring to the big secondaries players (Ardian, Lex, BX SP, …). What’s the best way to get into their pipelines, since they would be looking at more specific experience?
Most of these roles goes off-cycle, and really significantly off-cycle (1+ years into your stint for near-term starts, or within 6 month starts). They hire as-needed, not 2 years out like your buyout PE shops might do.
The experience isn't that specific, secondaries is less sought after coming from banking given limited optionality to traditional PE. If you are at BB/EB you will get plenty of HH emails for all of the big secondary shops. You occasionally see these roles posted online, or if the big HHs reach out with surveys/intro messages, you can express interest in secondaries and they may have different recruiters at the firm for that.
A lot of these places hire direct from UG or MBA these days. Otherwise it’s mostly as needed, the teams aren’t super large and turnover isn’t high so hard to forecast headcount 2 years out
HarbourVest was hiring a couple months back and they're bigger than the ones you posted
