Value of Industry Knowledge (Physician looking to move to PE)
Any thoughts on the value of sector specific knowledge to a PE firm?
I'm a physician by training but largely interested in the capital moving that industry. Spent some time in Equity Research at a small stock fund and really enjoyed the work, but looking to get more in the weeds and actually have some impact beyond simply equity research.
PE has me interested given the inclusion of the financial analysis side, but also the ability to drive value both on the company and investor side by instituting operational improvements.
Any thoughts? Am I on the right track or should I go back to monkey work in a white coat?
Very low odds anything other than highly specialized hands on micro cap
If you’re a licensed physician, keep working. If you’re early in med school, pivot to IB now and then work your way into a buyside seat.
Your knowledge will unfortunately not be valued very highly.
