Varagon capital partners Analyst Role
A headhunter reached out about a opportunity at Varagon capital partners. Currently, I'm an credit analyst at a BB, and the new role at Varagon will also be an analyst role. Can someone shed some light on what are the exit opp coming from Varagon and if it make sense for me to make the move?
Hey RichChigga, what a lonely thread. I'm here since nobody responded ...so maybe one of these discussions will help:
You're welcome.
If you are focused on IB, then stay at your firm to switch internally to IB or to another firm in IB directly. Going from BB Credit to Varagon to BB/MM IB would raise more questions.
Depends what your goals are. If you would like to be in Private Credit / Debt then it’s a reasonable move. I would stay at your IB until the associate promo and make the move elsewhere from there.
can anyone shed some light on the culture of varagon and comp? I'm obviously early in my career, don't want to pigeon hole myself into direct lending. Would Varagon - M7 b school provide possible UMM PE exit??? or better off aiming for the MM IB - MM PE - b- school?
I think both are doable but IB -> PE is more traditional assuming it’s a high quality IB. Varagon is a respected direct lender, no idea on culture tho
Put simply, there is no way you would be considered for post MBA Upper MM PE role if you come in with no prior buyout experience. You could def swing UMM credit, but by no means will you be competitive against all the other M7 applicants that have UMM/MF pre-mba experience and are looking to get back into the industry. LMM PE is not out of the realm of possibility though..
Do you think it's proper conduct to reach out to current analyst and associate or former analyst / associate to get some understanding on the firm? First time interviewing for a credit shop so I'm not sure if it's appropriate given that the size of the firm tend to be smaller.
How do these guys compare to Owl Rock (founded ~ the same time) and the bigger direct lenders like Golub/Ares?
Aflac just put a $3bn investment into Varagon which seems great, wondering how their reputation stacks up relative to other private credit shops.
