Warburg Pincus Singapore

Anyone know about the PE generalist team in Singapore?

Anything on culture, hours, investing strategy, and upward mobility would be appreciated!

Strong and high performing team but absolutely brutal work culture even by SG standards - think min 100hr weeks, daily 3-4am finishes and meaningful weekend work. Seniors are tough but excellent deal exposure / flow. Known as one of the 2-3 worst funds for WLB in buyside in SG

Junior to mid levels seem absolutely dead inside (and maybe are generally introverted folks)

Think the above commenter is spot on on the culture. They’re quite active in RE but I haven’t heard that many deals come out of WP SG in other sectors.

Hours are absolutely terrible - they're pretty infamous in SG and have been actively warned by headhunters on this. Heard they’ve been having difficulties filling some of their open roles for a very long time as a result, despite solid comp.

The SG office covers all of SEA and I recall they were very active a few years ago primarily investing into TMT and FIG. It's more minority / growth equity oriented than LBOs, and therefore quite cyclical. Deal activity in SEA has slowed down a lot since 2022 especially in the growthier spaces that they like to play in, and SEA is just not that deep of a PE market to begin with, so the group has been less active these days and doing maybe 1 deal a year. They look at a lot of stuff though which is why the hours are so bad. Friend of mine knows a guy who joined from Apollo PE in NYC; apparently he thought Apollo was easier.

If you're joining as a junior, you'll likely get decent deal reps (and paid very well), but career longevity might be an issue. They have a massive team in SG relative to AUM with lots of mid-level people. Couple that with near-term fundraising risk -- WP's current Asia fund which the SG office invests out of has actually been one of the worst performing among the MFs, mainly due to China but SEA also had some dogs -- and it's not hard to imagine the impact on upward mobility or job security if the next fundraise sputters.

Very curious to hear associate pay at Singapore Warburg and how that stacks up to other seats with similar YoE there
