what do associates/analysts do?

What do associates/ analysts do at big name PE shops?
For example, Blackstone PE has analysts. What do they do besides LBO modelling? What do KKR associates dobesides LBO modelling?

The more specific, the better.

Haha, when you hear this kind of stuff, you sort of wonder why anyone would kill to work as an associate at one of these funds...unless of course, you need a few more years STARING at excel spreadsheets. Lol.

do they perform their own detailed b/s/, i/s/, scf projections, dcf and, multiple valuations?

do they listen in on conference calls, and ask questions?

do they do research on general industries?

i don't work at a mega fund (MM), but I have a few friends at mega funds.

analyst / associate responsibilities include:

-LBO Modeling (along w dividend recap modeling) -Memo Drafting -Monitoring portfolio companies (this can range from quarterly monitoring reports to evaluating potential add-on acquisitions) -meeting w management teams, asking questions, taking notes -tracking down industry research, going to trade shows, industry conferences -etc etc etc
