I’d think less in terms of AUM but more so the ability to provide solutions and synergies across a large variety of alternative offerings
There is none, it’s a made up term. It’s super amorphous but the names that always seem to pop up are the larger, diversified asset managers with flagship PE strategies (eg Carlyle, KKR, BX, Apollo, Bain, TPG, etc.). Honestly, it’s not a useful distinction in the real world (I’ve never actually heard someone say “megafund” out loud). The closest people get is “large cap” vs. “middle market” vs. “lower middle market” which I think is probably more helpful since.
not sure if others agree, but ~$15B in a single fund qualifies as a "mega"fund in my eyes
