When/How to ask for internship?

Hey everyone,

I’m a current freshman at a NESCAC and I’ve been having chats with a few alumni who work in private equity, mostly at LMM firms. All the talks have been going really good and I connect well with the guys, and something multiple of them have told me themselves is the best pathway to success is working at a smaller firm your freshman/sophomore year to actually learn more about the process and be more hands on, and then transition to larger firms your junior/senior year.

I was just wondering, how should I go about asking these guys if there are any opportunities at their firms to intern this summer or if they can connect me to anyone they know that’d be interested. Could it just be a simple email or would it be best to schedule another call with them?

Thanks
