Why do PE firms have (macro) econ divisions

Does the deal team even use their research? I'm talking about MF PE, which have macro research and econ departments. They publish quarterly macro outlooks and stuff. It makes sense for AM and BB IB to have these econ teams, but PE? Do these even inform the deal team? Or are they mostly marketing ploys, like a lot of 'investment outlooks' and public content are
