Best Entry Level Positions

Wondering what the best jobs in CRE are right out of college in terms of pay and exit-ops or move-up potential within the company? Is capital markets for a brokerage very hit or miss depending on the team you end up on? Also, for those positions to you apply to a specific team or are placed? Looking for any and all advice. Thanks!

To be brutally honest.... the best job out of college is the one you get offered.

In real estate, where you start, or what brand name, or even what field honestly isn't all that deterministic in a career (presuming you want to move up/switch fields etc.). People start in appraisal, end in development. People start in brokerage, end up in acquisitions. It's all over the place.

I do think roles where you get transaction experience early on can be fun, well paid, and makes you learn a lot in short period of time (i.e sellside roles in banking and brokerage). Valuation roles make you learn the details/procedures of investment analysis, market analysis, and valuation thus setting you up for buyside roles if so inclined.

So, really, I don't see any perfect answer, get the best gig you can. I do think being on a good team with strong mentorship may be the most important if you can weight options on that basis. Name brand won't hurt, but it's not everything (not like in the IB world).
