Blackstone RE - Portfolio Insights Analyst
Hi all -- wanted to ask if anyone had any information on Blackstone's RE Portfolio Management team? Information on that team in particular has been sparse so far (one existing thread to date). I was recently contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn about analyst role on the above team specifically supporting Portfolio Insights and Reporting and now I have a phone screen with them this Monday. The description is as follows:
This professional will join Blackstone Real Estate’s Portfolio Management team in New York. The Associate / Analyst will be responsible for supporting the distillation of strategic portfolio insights and reporting across all real estate sectors and strategies. This work will involve the tracking, execution, consolidation and reporting on internal, proprietary portfolio information to support key internal and external stakeholder requirements. This professional will work closely with Blackstone Real Estate’s senior management team as well as asset management, finance, investor relations, public affairs and portfolio companies to deliver compelling and concise information to support the business. This professional will employ a range of skillsets, with primary areas of responsibility including:
Product and Investment Knowledge: Become proficient in Blackstone Real Estate’s global funds and investments
Portfolio Insights: Source, summarize, and disseminate real-time information across the global portfolio; work in partnership with regional Portfolio Management counterparts in Europe and Asia as well as the Portfolio Management and Asset Management teams in the U.S.
External Reporting: Collaborate with investor relations, public affairs and other Blackstone teams to support the creation of talking points, quarterly and ad-hoc investor reporting and presentation materials; assist in the preparation of the annual global investor conference
Internal Reporting: Support senior leadership preparation for internal meetings, ad-hoc requests and strategy support Special Projects: Participation in and execution of global special projects relating to portfolio information and strategy / positioning of the Real Estate business
I am aware that it is not a direct investment role (seems like a combination of investor relations/strategy if I'm thinking abt it correctly) but does anyone have any general thoughts on the role? I am coming from an FP&A background so would be curious to know what exit opps as well + if I am confining myself to RE in the long-term or if I still have some optionality down the line. I also have some RE Finance exp from undergrad as well if that helps.
Backoffice
LMFAO. You need to stop commenting for firms you could never get into.
.
This. "Intern in PE" is obsessed with me and has to chime in on every comment I make.
Total incel weirdo
what is the main difference between PM and AM roles?
The portfolio manager should manage the steering of debt/equity in the fund, distribution planning, and will be the connection between the fund and the investor. Some shops this role is purely reporting and "back-office" as there will be a senior PM in charge of all investor facing communication.
AM will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of a building to drive NOI and implement the business plan.
is it possible to move to the AM side from a role like this? when speaking with the recruiter it seems like there’s a big emphasis on FP&A/reporting
