Based on the most helpful WSO content, drug testing policies at brokerages like JLL, CBRE, and CW can vary. For example, in a thread discussing HFF (another major brokerage), it was mentioned that while drug tests were specified in offer letters, they were not always conducted. Typically, if a drug test is required, it would occur closer to the onboarding date rather than immediately after signing the offer.

However, it's worth noting that some users have shared experiences where no drug test was conducted despite it being mentioned. The type of test (urine, hair, etc.) and the setting can depend on the specific office or region. If you're concerned, it might be best to prepare for a standard urine test, as that's the most common form of pre-employment screening.

I have been at all 3 but only got tested before internships, don’t think they do anymore

Ricky Sargulesh:

I got a drug test before joining one of the big brokerages.  They gave me a few weeks notice that it would be coming, and then I got a call randomly one day saying I had 24 hours to come in and take it.  Never got tested again after that.

Was it at a lab or did they call you into the office?

Congrats on the offer! As for the drug test, it’s usually a standard urine test. But don’t worry, they’re not checking for any special substances like your secret stash of gummy bears or energy drinks. Unless you’ve been using your coffee addiction as a coping mechanism for your Excel spreadsheet nightmares, you should be good to go! Just avoid getting too creative with the “sample,” and you’ll be fine.
