Canadian Comp 2024

Last comp thread I could find for Canada: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/real-estate…

Any chance we can get some new numbers for Canadians? Would love to get some updated data on the market up north, particularly for junior roles.

I can start:

Role: Analyst, Investments

Type: Pension

Location: Toronto

YOE: 1.5

Hours: 50-60

Salary: $85K

Bonus: 20-25%

Wondering if pensions who have real estate investment teams under their pension umbrella (OTPP, HOOPP) pay the same as their other investments team (PE, Infra). Seems like the pensions who have RE arms (Oxford, QuadReal) aren't quite paying up relative to the parent companies (OMERS, BCI respectively). Does anyone have further insight on this?

Interviewed at OTPP’s RE team recently, they pay on par with other investment teams now since they brought CF in-house. Not sure about others

At CDPQ and I know pay is not the same between PE/infra/public and real estate.

Role: Analyst
Type: Private Lender
Location: East Coast
AUM: >1Bn
YOE: 1
Hours: 40-50
Salary: $90k
Bonus: 20% Cash + sign on and LTIP

Aside from the sign on and LTIP, comp of 90k + 20% isn't wild at all, any good shop (pensions, banks CB arms) pay in that range or better.

Yeah if your first analyst gig is for some no name firm that no one knows outside of Canada CRE, you're gonna get paid less. But the competitive new grads with good internships shouldn't have problems getting offers in this range.

Pay is there, just gotta know where to shop.

Canadian comp is disgusting…from a Canadian who left for another city and is making what people with 8 YOE in Canada make

i'd say 95k is standard for sr analyst but depends on the shop. for the bonus, 30% is definitely on the higher end for a senior analyst but if they routinely hit their targets, then i can see them offering 90k with that bonus.

for reference in AM, SA roles are around 95k with 10-15% bonus

Director  - 175K 20% Bonus

Small developer / family office

Question:

Currently working for a small developer at the director level after being laid off last year from a prestigious US REPE firm (Associate). I've been here a few months and its not obviously as institutional. Will it be possible to transition back into the institutional investment level roles? Will they consider my current experience? (currently hiding) given the tough market conditions.

Here's a data point to bring down the average

Role: Intern Analyst (Acquisitions and Development)
Type: Quasi Family Office
Location: West Coast
AUM: NA
YOE: 0
Hours: 40
Salary: $40k pro-rated
Bonus: NA
