closer cannot close a job :( any advice?
Have about 8 years in RE closing at a bank, super diverse assets, but I hate this side of the house.
I've taken UW modeling classes, sat with our UW from start to finish, working on NYU Real Estate Investment certificate, joined CREFC, attended ULI events, started website design and programming. Looking to just move the f out of Operations and into an analytical role (UW? Asset management? sales analyst? Im not being picky! )but I can't get a single offer. Sometimes, not even a call back. I'll take an entry role just to get my feet in the door.
I'm getting extremely burnt out and I don't know what else to do.
I believe capital one is hiring a sales analyst. Saw it on LinkedIn
I applied, I reached out to one of the hiring managers as I know him, had an informational interview the day it was posted, and haven't heard back from HR. Was going to reach back out to the manager, but I didn't know if that was appropriate.
It is totally appropriate to follow up. Say you're just checking in on the process and reiterate your interest. Keep it short and simple.
Have you tried talking with your boss about moving into more analytical roles at your current company, or is it not really much of an option?
You're probably running into two things:
Since you’re doing the NYU certificate, have you ever thought of doing the Masters? It might help you open up doors. Awesome for networking if you want to stay in NYC. You can pretty much throw a dart at any firm and find an NYU grad. This will help show your commitment to making a pivot and open up doors. Also what about an MBA? Both from NYU can be done at night.
Hang in there! In addition to the advice given above, have you tried networking with folks at NYI, CREFC, ULI, etc.? Try cold-messaging on Linkedin too, but don't ask for a job from the getgo. Treat it as more exploratory and then keep in touch. That worked for me at my previous gig.
Just keep knocking! Definitely suggest cold messaging on LinkedIn. Literally how I broke into affordable housing. Stay patient Xmas can be rough time to be job hunting. Good luck!
Have you looked at UW roles (Credit Analyst and what not) at other banks? No openings internally?
Someone above mentioned Capital One. They are always hiring for UW gigs specifically on their MF agency teams. I interviewed with them awhile back and they love guys with prior bank experience even if you were a teller. You have bank experience and you have a good story to tell in an interview of why you want to pivot. Your best bet is to continue pushing and try to leap to another bank in UW. Then go from there and it would be easier to move to AM or another role not in banking.
